Tim has been a National Health Service Consultant Podiatric Surgeon since 1994. In that time he has performed over 18,000 foot operations. He now works exclusively in private practice in N. Ireland. Tim has published over 90 articles in national and international peer reviewed journals on foot surgery and foot biomechanics. The cause and treatment of bunion problems remains a particular interest. The principle aim of surgery is to restore the cosmetic appearance of the foot because a foot that looks good generally works well as well. Secondly it is an essential aim of surgery that people can return to wearing any shoe they want, including high heels.
Tim completed a PhD on bunions in children at Nottingham University Medical school, Department of Orthopaedics in 1994. He was the first Dean of the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery of the Royal College of Podiatrists, London and is an adviser to the UK National Institute of Clinical Excellence on foot joint replacements. Current research interests include cortisone injection therapy for pain on the ball of the foot, surgical outcomes of Morton’s neuroma, long term follow up synthetic cartilage joint resurfacing for arthritic joints.
In 2023 Tim received the Diamond Award from Royal College of Podiatry. This is the Royal College of Podiatry’s highest honour and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated substantial, outstanding and exemplary contribution to the profession of podiatry over a sustained number of years.
